Quatuor Arod is a former first-prize winner of the pinnacle of chamber music competitions, the ARD in Munich, a supreme accolade which was awarded only seven times between 1959 and their victory in 2016. The quartet was the BBC New Generation Artist from 2017 to 2019 and the ECHO Rising Star for the 2018-2019 season, before continuing their glittering global career spanning the Berliner Philharmonie, the Oji Hall in Tokyo and none other than Carnegie Hall in New York for their first tour of the USA. Enjoy a taste of their playing here.
Kurt (1926-2021) was a long-standing devotee of Norwich Chamber Music (the “Music Club” as he always called it), having been involved from its origins with Mr Dearnaley (through his parents) of Town Close School (of which he was a former pupil), right through to the last concerts in 2020 before the first lockdown. He was treasurer for many years in the 1970s and 1980s, and, with his wife Pat, routinely offered hospitality to visiting performers. He would have been delighted to know that a concert was being dedicated to his memory.
